Seatrade Maritime "Investment in People" Award

Seatrade Investment to People Award

The American P&I Club Learning Management System developed by IDESS IT won the prestigious Seatrade Maritime "Investment in People" Award.

The American P&I Club sees managing crew competence as key to safety, security, and environmental protection. Although training is essential for developing competence, knowledge and skills are often lost soon after the training event, unless they are applied. To address this, the Club, together with IDESS IT developed an online Learning Management System that not only transfers knowledge but also monitors retention through periodic assessment. The output from the assessment of each candidate is analyzed. Any gaps identified are closed by links to relevant learning resources, thereby reinforcing retention systematically, supporting continual personal improvement, and maintaining crew competence.

Other finalists include:

  • Drydocks World Dubai;

  • Malaysian Maritime Academy (MMA) Sdn Bhd;

  • Manzanillo International Terminal - Panama, S.A.;

  • Martek Marine;

  • Merchant Navy Training Board 'Careers at Sea Ambassadors'; and

  • Port Tampa Bay.

The award is presented by Drew Brandy, Senior Vice President, Market Strategy, Inmarsat, and Grant Elrick, Global Sales Director, Seatrade, and collected by Dr. William Moore, Senior Vice President, Shipowners Claims Bureau and Manager, American Steamship Owners Mutual Protection & Indemnity Association and Captain Robert Rayner, President, IDESS IT at the Grosvenor House London, 30th of June 2017.

Idemitsu Kosan Co. Ltd. Ho Chi Minh City Office (IDEMITSU), a leading Japanese petroleum and renewable energy company that owns and operates oil platforms and refineries, has chosen a Competence Management System developed by IDESS Interactive Technologies (IDESS IT), for its operations in Vietnam.

IDESS IT is a provider of award-winning H.R. software systems designed to manage workplace performance for high-risk industries. They specialize in delivering solutions for the offshore oil and gas industries.

Building on IDESS IT’s Competence Assurance platform, the system is customized to meet IDEMITSU’s precise specifications for their workforce engaged in oil and gas operations offshore Vietnam.

The web-based system provides access anytime, anywhere, and is supported by an offline facility that allows continued usage when broadband connectivity offshore is interrupted. Records are automatically synchronized with the cloud server once connectivity is re-established.

IDEMITSU’s training management has defined the functions and output they require of the system, including facilities for recording workplace assessments, identifying performance gaps, ascertaining training needs to close the gaps, and analysing performance across a broad range of metrics.

An integral part of the IDESS IT Competence Assurance system is an LMS that provides access to e-learning modules specific to the processes, equipment, and procedures of the working environment on the IDEMITSU offshore platform.

The expected measurable outcomes are increased skills retention and safe operating practices.

The complete process provides the link between individual performance and organizational success.
